MQ-25A Stingray Refueling Drone

The first Boeing MQ-25A Stingray refueling drone took to the air in just a few button presses.

During the test, the drone followed commands from its control system and successfully taxied, took off, flew, and landed on its own.

As the U.S. Navy’s first operational drone designed to operate from aircraft carriers, the Stingray will help extend the range of other aircraft by refueling them in midair, while also working alongside human pilots.

Why it matters:
This marks a major step toward more autonomous military aviation. By taking over support roles like refueling, drones like the MQ-25A free up crewed aircraft for critical missions, increase efficiency, and expand how far carrier-based operations can reach.
