An advanced vehicle concept. NASA
NASA’s Subsonic Vehicle Technologies and Tools (SVTT) project is developing advanced technologies for future subsonic aircraft, including next-generation fixed-wing planes and vertical take-off and landing vehicles.
The NASA program focuses on improving aircraft efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and noise, and lowering operating costs for future single-aisle airliners. Researchers are also exploring electrified propulsion systems, new airframe designs, and advanced gas-turbine engines to power the next generation of aircraft.
SVTT is also creating advanced computer models to study the noise and performance of multi-rotor urban air mobility vehicles.
These vertical-lift aircraft can operate in confined urban spaces and are expected to play an important role in the growing advanced air mobility industry.
The research aims to significantly improve aircraft performance while helping the United States remain competitive in the global aviation market.
