The CAVE system surrounds users with 3D visuals using wall-sized screens, overhead projectors, tracking cameras, and mirrors hidden behind the display walls.
The GRUVE (Glenn Reconfigurable User-Interface and Virtual Reality Exploration) Lab is part of the GVIS Lab and houses the CAVE. It’s mainly used to simulate mission scenarios and explore virtual versions of NASA facilities.

GRUVE lets multiple people experience 3D visualizations at the same time. These include 3D models of NASA buildings and detailed images built from scientific data.
Using powerful projectors, mirrors, infrared motion tracking, and active-shutter glasses, users can see accurate 3D visuals from any position. The models appear to float in space and stay in correct proportion as the user moves.
