The SP80 Trimaran uses a giant kite to reach high speeds and might set a sailing record.

After hitting 51 knots (95 km/h) in late February, the SP80 team has achieved a key milestone: completing a 500-meter run at an average speed of over 41 knots (76 km/h), the standard distance for the world record.

Despite challenging weather, the crew is sailing as much as possible to fine-tune their skills and fully control the boat’s performance from 0 to over 70 knots (130 km/h). Every run is about perfecting trajectories, pushing boundaries, and chasing every extra knot to get closer to Paul Larsen’s world record of 65.45 knots (121 km/h) over 500 meters.

“The challenge is massive, but every session takes us one step closer to our goal… hoping the wind will be on our side!”
