China has unveiled the world’s most powerful hypergravity machine that is 1,900 times stronger than Earth’s gravity.

Called CHIEF1900, built by Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Group, the centrifuge can spin multi-tonne samples at extreme speeds. It will help researchers recreate and study powerful natural disasters, such as earthquakes and dam failures, all within a controlled laboratory environment.

The machine, delivered to Zhejiang University in December, can spin multi-tonne samples at unprecedented speeds. Once operational, it will surpass China’s previous record-holding centrifuge and become the most powerful scientific centrifuge ever built.

The machine surpasses China’s previous record-setting centrifuge.
