Watch NASA’s X-59 fly over California’s Mojave Desert as it gets ready for quieter supersonic travel.

The X-59 research jet flew on April 14, 2026, carrying out a series of test maneuvers. It climbed to higher altitudes and approached supersonic speeds, helping engineers expand its flight limits and gather important data.

Why it matters:
The X-59 is designed to reduce the loud sonic boom to a softer “thump,” which could make supersonic passenger flights over land possible again, significantly cutting travel times.
