The Columbia River jetty system, also called the MCR, is a historic rock wall in the Ocean that shields this important trade route from the powerful Pacific Ocean.
After decades of relentless waves and weather, it was time for another rebuild.
JE McAmis, a marine construction contractor specializing in jetties, took on the job. They hauled over 400,000 tons of specially chosen stones from quarries, some located hundreds of miles away.
They used a custom-built 6020B excavator—one of the most impressive machines I’ve ever seen—to reposition old stones and place the new ones.
