Audi has created the GT50 concept, a retro-inspired RS3, to mark 50 years of its legendary five-cylinder engine.

The iconic Audi five-cylinder turns 50 in 2026. To celebrate, 14 Audi apprentices reworked an Audi RS 3 Sportback into a special concept car called the GT50. The project was first reported by stimme.de and later shared by Audi4Addict.

The five-cylinder engine debuted in 1976—long before any of the apprentices were born. That contrast is what makes the GT50 special. It blends classic Audi ideas with a fresh, modern perspective from a younger generation.

The design clearly references Audi’s racing heritage, especially the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO. If that racecar were designed today, it might look very similar to the GT50.

Sharp lines define the C-pillar instead of the smooth curves seen on modern Audis. Light hits the edge and fades quickly, adding drama. At the rear, the angled decklid creates deep shadows beneath the glass—a styling trick inspired by Group B rally cars, where bold shapes emphasized both performance and aggression.
