California, in a dramatic move to shift to EVs, plans to ban the sale of new gasoline powered cars and trucks in 2035.
California Governor Newsom has signed an executive order in a zero-emissions effort, that bans the sale of new gas-powered cars starting in 2035.
The gas-powered vehicles will continue to be sold on the used market.
California with about 11 percent of all US vehicle sales, is the largest US auto market, and the ban would be the most significant to date by a US state.
Newsom said at a news conference:
“This is the most impactful step our state can take to fight climate change. For too many decades, we have allowed cars to pollute the air that our children and families breathe. You deserve to have a car that doesn’t give your kids asthma. Our cars shouldn’t make wildfires worse and create more days filled with smoky air. Cars shouldn’t melt glaciers or raise sea levels threatening our cherished beaches and coastlines.”
