The glass-fronted Bivouac mountain shelter in the Alps, designed by Carlo Ratti, generates its own water and electricity.

Created in collaboration with Salone del Mobile.Milano, it will premiere as an urban pavilion during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.

The shelter is self-sufficient — it produces energy, gathers water, and meets basic needs without external support.

The surrounding mountain rocks inspired its shape and structure. The simple design allows the Bivouac to be assembled on-site at high altitudes using minimal tools and materials.
