ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot is set to fly on her first mission to the International Space Station, with launch planned no earlier than 15 February 2026. The mission is called epsilon.
The name epsilon reflects the idea that even small actions can have a big impact. In mathematics, epsilon means a very small number, similar to the role one astronaut plays in the vast scale of spaceflight.
In astronomy, epsilon is also used to name the fifth-brightest star in a constellation.
Sophie will travel to space aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, launching from Florida, USA. She will be part of Crew-12, alongside NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, and Russian cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev.
