Amphibious aircraft developer JEKTA and hydrogen fuel-cell producer ZeroAvia have partnered to create a fuel-cell version of the PHA-ZE 100 electric seaplane, with a range of up to 370 miles.
JEKTA, a Swiss developer of the PHA-ZE 100 amphibious aircraft, announced that it will use ZeroAvia’s fuel cell power generation system (PGS) to create a fuel cell version of its electric amphibious flying boat. This collaboration aims to eventually offer the PGS as a standard option when the PHA-ZE 100 reaches the market.

While battery technology continues to advance, JEKTA is exploring all possibilities to enhance the range and payload of its zero-emission aircraft. By using ZeroAvia’s fuel cell PGS, the PHA-ZE 100 is expected to achieve a range of up to 500 or 600 km and increase its payload by up to one tonne. This will provide the airframe with even greater capabilities.
Additionally, the hydrogen fuel system is anticipated to lower operating and maintenance costs, offering a lifespan of up to 20,000 hours. JEKTA and ZeroAvia will work closely together to develop and certify an integrated PGS, which will include inverters, other electronic components, and a hydrogen tank and fuel system.
ZeroAvia is already testing its hydrogen-electric powertrain (ZA600) in a 19-seat prototype aircraft.
