Renault has now partnered with Gestamp Solar to build the largest solar energy project in automotive industry. Covering an area of about 450,000 sqm, the solar energy project will witness the installation of solar panels at Renault plants in France.
The installation of solar panels will take place on the roofs of the delivery and shipping centers at Renaults Douai, Maubeuge, Flins, Sandouville and Clon sites.
Construction will commence later this month, with completion scheduled for February 2012.
Upon completion the solar panels will cover an area equivalent of 63 football fields and generate about 60MW of power, which is enough to power a town of 15,000.
The new Eco project will help reduce CO2 emissions by 30,000 tons a year.
