Slim Ride is an automated, narrow public transport design concept for Auckland , in New Zealand.
In this video senior lecturer in Product Design Oliver Neuland explains the research and development of the GRT system from Mk1 to Mk3.
The concept is meant to trigger discourse around transport alternatives for a more and more congested Auckland. It is a vision, not a fully resolved solution. The work explored technical, user experience and formal-aesthetic options informed by local context.
The suggested extreme narrow foot print is suited to fit into the existing limited infrastructure of Auckland (NZ) feeding train hubs throughout the region. One carriage of the GRT system can carry up to 15 passengers and is designed to be barrier-free.
