Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is taking a major step toward making fusion energy a reality by building the world’s first grid-scale fusion power plant, ARC, in Virginia.

After evaluating over 100 potential sites worldwide, Virginia was chosen for its strong infrastructure and demand for reliable, clean power.

CFS will fully fund, construct, own, and operate this groundbreaking plant, aiming to begin delivering carbon-free energy by the early 2030s. The company is partnering with Dominion Energy Virginia to ensure a smooth connection to the grid, leveraging their expertise while introducing them to fusion technology.

ARC is expected to generate 400 megawatts of electricity — enough to power 150,000 homes or large industrial facilities in the region.
