The Airbus Racer helicopter demonstrator has reached its fast cruise speed target of 407 km/h (220 kts).

The Clean Sky 2 research project involves 40 partners from 13 European countries. One notable initiative is the Racer demonstrator, a collaboration between the EU and industry, showcasing the innovative potential of European partnerships.

The Racer recently completed its first flight, enabling the test team to evaluate the aircraft’s overall performance. This significant achievement marks the beginning of a two-year flight campaign, designed to gradually expand the aircraft’s operational range and demonstrate its high-speed capabilities.

Optimized for a cruise speed of more than 400 km/h, the Racer demonstrator aims to achieve the best trade-off between speed, cost-efficiency, and mission performance.

Additionally, the Racer aims to reduce fuel consumption by approximately 20% through aerodynamic optimization and an innovative eco-mode propulsion system.

The initial 30-minute flight allowed the team to assess the helicopter’s behavior, kicking off the comprehensive flight campaign.
