Airship and Eiffel Tower

This is a research dirigible juxtaposed with the Eiffel Tower as observed on March 12, 2011. This airship’s mission was to measure the radioactivity level (natural and artificial) and map any anomalies over Paris, France.

To establish a standard of reference in case a future nuclear incident should occur. Nuclear energy is the leading source of electrical power generation in France. In order to assure that the mapping was thorough, the dirigible cruised over the French capital for five days at an altitude about 500 – 650 ft (150 – 200 m). Photographer: Bertrand Kulik
