BMW Group is preparing to introduce humanoid robots at its production plant in Leipzig, marking a new step in AI-powered manufacturing.
At the Leipzig factory, humanoid robots will be trained to carry out real production tasks. The company is testing how these AI-driven machines can work alongside human employees in daily car manufacturing.

BMW calls this approach “Physical AI,” a combination of digital artificial intelligence and real-world machines. The goal is to connect smart software with physical robots so they can operate directly in production environments.
This is the first time BMW is bringing Physical AI to Europe. The pilot project aims to integrate humanoid robots into existing vehicle assembly lines and explore future uses in battery and component production.

Last year, BMW successfully tested humanoid robots at its plant in Spartanburg, United States. The experience gained there is now helping the company expand and improve its Physical AI technology.
