Biologists discovered a mysterious monolith in the middle of the Utah wilderness.
A team of biologists discovered a bizarre metal monolith in the middle of the Utah wilderness, with great resemblance to the black monolith of Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 sci-fi classic 2001: A Space Odyssey.
A spokesperson for Utah’s Department of Public Safety explained to The New York Times that it could have been there even longer:
“All we know it’s been installed since the ’40s and ’50s.”

Helicopter pilot Bret Hutchings told KSL TV:
“I’d say it’s probably between 10 and 12 feet-high. We were kind of joking around that if one of us suddenly disappears, then the rest of us make a run for it.”
“He was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, turn around, turn around! There’s this thing back there – we’ve got to go look at it!'”
