This is what it would be like to look out the window, flying at 37,000 feet, of a Boeing 747 (550 mph) vs. an SR-71 (2,700 mph) vs. the New Horizons spacecraft (36,000 mph). Watch the video…

In this animation you can see how fast New Horizons is, which recently flew past Pluto, compare to a Boeing 747 and to SR-71 Blackbird.

To put 36,000 mph in perspective, at that speed, you’d be able to fly from San Francisco to New York in about five minutes. Of course, you’d also be turned into a ball of searing hot plasma.
