World’s first solar panel road created in the village Tourouvre-au-Perche, in Normandy, France.

The one-kilometer road, funded by the Ministry of the Environment, is covered by solar panels, is estimated at 280,000 kWh per year (800 kWh on average per day), corresponding to an estimate of street lighting in a city of 5 000 inhabitants.

France’s goal of installing 1,000 kilometres (621 miles) of solar-panes on roads in the next four years.

1,000 kilometres of solar roads would provide electricity to around 5 million people, or about 8 percent of country’s population.
