Ahead of the UK Space Conference (16–17 July 2025), Frazer-Nash has announced it is leading a new research project called INVICTUS.
This program will design a complete concept for a high-speed aircraft and its systems, with the aim of building and flying a Mach 5-capable vehicle by early 2031.
INVICTUS is backed by €7 million in funding from the European Space Agency and marks an important step toward creating practical spaceplane technology.
Over the next year, the team will develop a detailed concept and early design for the full flight system. This includes defining requirements, performing technical analysis, outlining development steps, and planning the path to the first flight. A key part of the project is proving the performance of hydrogen-powered, precooled air-breathing engines at hypersonic speeds—technology essential for horizontal take-off.
The project is led by Frazer-Nash and supported by a skilled team of partners, including Spirit AeroSystems, Cranfield University, and several small-to-medium businesses.
