Space Solar Power Station

Chinese scientists are working on the design of a space solar power station {SSPS), that will be the largest-ever space project.

The Chinese Space Solar Power Station will be in geosynchronous orbit 36,000 kilometers above ground, and to cost will be grater than the Apollo project and the International Space Station.

Space-based solar panels can collect energy from the Sun 99 percent of the time and generate 10 times as much electricity as ground-based panels.

The electricity generated would be converted to lasers or microwaves and transmitted to a collector on the ground.

The space power station would be gigantic, with the total area reaching 5 to 6 square kilometers, or the equivalent of two New York Central Parks
