Japanese scientists develop glass that is so strong and sturdy as steel.
The secret ingredient to create such tough glass, is alumina.Previous attempts to add alumina to glass have failed. Now an oxide of aluminum, mixing it with silicon dioxide makes glass way tougher.

University of Tokyo assistant professor and co-author of the study Atsunobu Masuno reports: “We are looking to commercialize the technique within five years.”
The new material offered “good mechanical properties, high transparency and a high refractive”.
